Welcome to the most 'Funtastic' regatta in the Caribbean!

Welcome to the most 'Funtastic' regatta in the Caribbean!

November 16th, 1776
The Brig “Andrew Doria” approaches the roads at St. Eustatius, deploys the red and white striped Continental Colors and fires a salute of thirteen guns. On the insistence of the Governor, Johannes de Graaff, the commander of the fort replies with 11 guns. These shots would echo around the world! Thus starts the rise of a Super Power and the beginning of the end for the tiny island of St. Eustatius which would be made to pay dearly for her support of the American cause. To commemorate these events the Golden Rock Regatta is to be held annually to focus attention on this forgotten outpost of a bygone age.

Join in from wherever you wish!
Officially the Golden Rock Regatta has 4 races going from island to island. Participants from the surrounding islands are invited to join in at any point of the regatta. Each day has it’s trophy to race for and entries are accepted on a day by day basis at a fee of $70 per race (CSA members)! So you can wait till the regatta reaches your island and then join in the race to the next destination!

  • The Golden Rock grows up!

The Golden Rock grows up! Last November 2011 the 7th annual Golden Rock Regatta took place between the islands of St. Maarten, St. Barths and St. Eustatius.
During a small ceremony in the “Bottoms Up” restaurant, foundation chairman Juul Hermsen was handed the official CSA flag by Petra Gilders, club manager of the St. Maarten Yacht Club. She was welcoming the Golden Rock Regatta as a new member of the Caribbean Sailing Association.
The event took place in ideal sailing weather and the competition was tight as can be seen by the protests (three!) handed to the race committee! A first time in 7 years showing that the event is growing-up.

Sailing Magazine to cover the GRR 2012

We are happy to announce that the well known yachting photographer, Bob Grieser, has been invited to cover next year's Golden Rock Regatta. He will be joined by Betsy Crowfoot, contributing editor of Sailing Magazine  and together they will produce a 6 - 8 page spread of the regatta. Due to unforseen circumstances Bob will not be able to join us this year however he has assured us to be at the start in 2012!

Both Bob and Betsy are well known faces on St. Maarten and Bob has been photographing the Heineken Regatta for about 20 years now. They are putting together a sailing team and will take part in the regatta giving them a personal slant on our event. We hope they enjoy the week with us and look forward to their article.

    Juul Hermsen.
