The competition, varied and friendly!

The regatta fleet consists of a number of classes from fast open racers with Spinnaker through stylish and classic yachts like the Kate, a Spartan replica from a bygone age and the 61ft NIX its antithesis, luxurious and fast! Both these boats are available for charter as is the bulk of the fleet participating. The “Bareboat” charter class offers participants the opportunity to take part in the “One Design” division of Beneteau Oceanis 50 (NEW boats replacing the old Cyclade fleet!), or in the Open Bareboat Class. These boats are well appointed and offer all the creature comforts of home for groups of up to 10 persons, ideal for your corporate/family/yachtclub Team wishing to experience this unique event! The regatta has an International flavor with teams from both sides of the Atlantic joining the local yachtsmen and women leading to the creation of new friendships and business connections. Why not challenge your competition / your family / your yacht club mates to a duel on the warm waters of the Caribbean?!

The Golden Rock grows up! Last November 2011 the 7th annual Golden Rock Regatta took place between the islands of St. Maarten, St. Barths and St. Eustatius.
During a small ceremony in the “Bottoms Up” restaurant, foundation chairman Juul Hermsen was handed the official CSA flag by Petra Gilders, club manager of the St. Maarten Yacht Club. She was welcoming the Golden Rock Regatta as a new member of the Caribbean Sailing Association.
The event took place in ideal sailing weather and the competition was tight as can be seen by the protests (three!) handed to the race committee! A first time in 7 years showing that the event is growing-up.

Sailing Magazine to cover the GRR 2012

We are happy to announce that the well known yachting photographer, Bob Grieser, has been invited to cover next year's Golden Rock Regatta. He will be joined by Betsy Crowfoot, contributing editor of Sailing Magazine  and together they will produce a 6 - 8 page spread of the regatta. Due to unforseen circumstances Bob will not be able to join us this year however he has assured us to be at the start in 2012!

Both Bob and Betsy are well known faces on St. Maarten and Bob has been photographing the Heineken Regatta for about 20 years now. They are putting together a sailing team and will take part in the regatta giving them a personal slant on our event. We hope they enjoy the week with us and look forward to their article.
